Vineyards take years to develop.  Wine takes years to make.  The result is a long term commitment to different vintages to reflect the unique attributes of the grapes from Sky Pine Vineyards.  BobDog Wines will be produce a ladder from early to late: early, lighter vintages, as in traditional dry Rose’s; followed by mid-term vintages as Merlots, followed by Cab Savs and blends thereof; with a time frame of 24 months; and also the longer term vintages, in the form of Port style reds, (now called Red Dessert Wines thanks to treaties with Europe) whose process will take up to 60 months.

Mountain Rose’ 2007
Our first offering will be the 2007 Mountain Rose’, not your father’s rose’, but a traditional dry wine, (think: Pinot Grigio, Sauvignon Blanc, only red).  Mountain merlot picked from the upper block rows in mid September, makes for a surprise of flavor, (afternoon delight), color and drinkability, paired alone as a pool side treat, or with pizza, pasta or fish. Release scheduled for June 2008.  Only $12.00 bottle.

Wine Maker Greg Opitz, at Judd’s Hill Winery in Napa, handcrafted this perfect summer time selection, this vintage has great effervescences and wonderful fruit.

Message from Bob:

WE WON!!!!

San Francisco Chronicle Wine CompetitionYes, the first ever entry by our small winery into America’s largest wine competition,  brought forth a SILVER METAL for the BobDog Wines, 2007 Mountain Rosé.  The 2009 San Francisco Wine Competition has over 4000 wines entered.  We thank the late Greg Opitz, and Micro Crush, our winemaker who took our mountainside merlot and turned it into this lovely dry and fruity Rosé  with hints of raspberry.

2000 Feet Merlot 2007
Currently undergoing French oak, the 2000 Feet Merlot is aging to a smooth and velvety texture, with emphasis on reduced tannins, for a standalone aperitif, or with your traditional food pairings: chicken, beef, pork, etc.  Release held until early 2009.  (But see bottles drowning in dark chocolate.)

Two Sky Pine Vineyards’ Classics:
Our award winning merlot and cabernet sauvignon grapes from the 2006 vintage are blended into this succulent offerings. Winemaker Steve Rezonja has worked with our grapes for over ten years, and brings that knowledge from each row, plant and grape cluster, honing these vintages into pure delight.

Mountain CAB 2006
Steve suggests there is dark berries, smoky leather, chocolate and amaretto flavors drifting through this wine.  (Remember to see: Bob’s Lexicon for the correct definition of these notes.)  This offering will be a blend of 75% Cabernet Sauvignon and 24% Merlot.  Soft, fragrant and well balanced.  A great food wine with soft tannins and mild acid for companioning with your favorite dishes.  Available Fall 2008.

Mountain Merlot 2006
Just for fun, this blend flips the two varietals with 75% Merlot and 25% Cabernet Sauvignon, to create a floral sensory impression with the delight of a chocolate and with jam character.  This one will go well in as a stand lone before dinner and also with food.  Those just learning the flavor ladder of wines would do well to taste this blend which makes the transition from the lesser reds into the heartier flavor profile. Available Fall 2008.

Caby Cabernet 2008
Inspired by Bob’s sidekick, Caby, who arrived at Sky Pine Vineyards to assist in the planting of the Cabernet Sauvignon blocks, the prestigious Cadillac of grapes, creates a classic wine, rich, complex, but lower in tannin profile.  In honor of Bob’s best friend, confident and little sister, Caby Cab will be release December 2009.  (But see bottles drowning in dark chocolate.)

Casi Novembre (Almost November)
This Port style dessert wine, will use late harvest grapes picked almost in November, with very high sugars and sweet succulent flavors to craft that silky, round, dark and swarthy fluid, so great with cigars, well aged cheeses and dark chocolate.  Release anticipated for 2009. (But see bottles drowning in dark chocolate.)

The Gumbah’s Zinfindel 2008-The Cult
At great cost, and having to put up with the old Italian who grows this zinfandel, Bob will be crushing a special batch of mountain side zinfandel for a vintage 2008. These vines are old, tortured, ugly and surely, just like their owner/grower, but have in the past made a huge flavor monster which was once called “Tsunami”, before its improper political connotation.  Look for it in late 2009.
